Chick Flicks in England, Ireland, Germany and Mars
December 1, 2015"Suffragette" is set in England, "Brooklyn" bounces back and forth to Ireland, "Bridge of Spies" takes us to cold war East Germany, and "The Martian" to, well, another world! There are so many excellent movies set somewhere else. "Suffragette" is a great way to experience the historic fight that women endured to gain the right to vote. Why not experience cultures clashing in "Brooklyn"? Tom Hanks is always fabulous, especially in "Bridge of Spies". Matt Damon is absolutely hilarious, good looking, and you can take a date to see "The Martian". Forget shopping and go see some great movies! ... Read More
Then and Now
August 15, 2015This summer's movies seem to happen either ""Then"" or ""Now."" Four current chick flicks are set in the past - ""A Little Chaos"" in 18th century France, ""Far From the Madding Crowd"", in the 18th century English countryside,The Man From U.N.C.L.E., set in the 60's, and ""Mr. Holmes"" in the first half of the 20th century London. And they are all excellent. Some are set ""Now"". ""Irrational Man"", ""Trainwreck"", Ricki and the Flash, and ""The Gift"" are set in the present. ""Minions"" is delightfully timeless.
