Chief Chick Comments

This movie held my interest from the very beginning. Clive Owen plays Jack Marcus, the honors English teacher at a private high school in Maine. He is an divorced alcoholic and a published author who may be fired from the school. Dina Disantos, played by Juliette Binoche, is a noted artist who has trouble painting and comes to teach honors Art to the school. She has great difficulty painting because of her disability and the frustration is enormous. Never-the-less she challenges her own students to do better and demands extraordinary effort. Similarly, Jack Marcus constantly pushes his students to embrace the written word. Eventually, a "war" evolves between the two teachers and the students about which is more important, Words or Pictures. The story develops and some beautiful words and images come forward. I liked it very much.
