If you have just been through or are going through a significant trauma or obstacle, you will like this more than I did. Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl Strayed who spiraled out of control at the early death of her beloved mother in 1990. After cheating continually on her husband and using hard drugs, she finally decided to become the woman her mother would have wanted her to be. Her inspiration is to hike the 1100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail which should take 90 days. Some of it is tedious, but with flashbacks, you see Cheryl's tragedies and actions as she suffers tremendously trying to do this hike across deserts and mountains solo. The movie could have been about a half hour shorter. Tough call on whether to take a date. About a woman's struggle, but about survival in the wild. Maybe
