While I find it difficult to imagine Fred MacMurray as the bad guy, it is easy to love Jack Lemmon as our awkward, tentative hero. Shirley MacLaine is an early role is a charmer and well plays a woman easily misled and disappointed. I can still see Lemmon using a tennis racquet to strain pasta. As he evolves into a braver version of himself, you cannot but cheer. A classic
