Julianne Moore plays the erratic Barbara Daly Baekeland, wife of Brooke Baekeland who was the heir to the Bakelite fortune as his grandfather invented early plastic later made into everything from jewelry to telephones and radios.(Disclaimer-the Chief Chick has a collection of Bakelite jewelry). Of note, Eddie Redmayne plays her adult son. You may remember him from My Week With Marilyn. I hate it when I cannot figure out why an actor looks familiar! Barbara Baekeland is a manipulator and is sexually aggressive. Her husband is a somewhat famous explorer and adventurer and does not actually work. She is focused on their social life and her son who is a baby when the movie opens in 1946. The story progresses through the trials of the family and Barbara's attempt at suicide followed by incest and tragedy. Well acted, but a bit disturbing.
