Maggie has run from 3 weddings. When #4 is scheduled, Richard Gere, a reporter, is sent to cover the story should she run again. Her fiancé is the local high school coach and is teaching her coping methods while her bridesmaids including Joan Cusack try to coach her through the wedding. Richard Gere is not welcomed by Maggie, played by Julia Roberts, but he charms his way into the town and eventually is "charmed" by Maggie herself
