This story is based on the history of Denmark in the late 18th century, beginning its story in 1766, when Caroline of England is wed to Christian VII of Denmark only to discover he is actually mad. In time he takes on a German physician, Johann Struensee. Over time Caroline and Dr Struensee united in more ways than one to bring about reform to Denmark. However, intrigue in the court is a formidable obstacle.

I really liked this film. Very well acted and directed. Learned a lot about Denmark during this important period. The film has motivated me to do some additional reading.
