Chief Chick Comments

This is a serious moving drama and was, in fact, Paul Newman's last motion picture (although he did voices and TV dramas before his death). Newman was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Hanks too is wonderful as Mike Sullivan who was almost adopted by John Rooney, a local Irish mob boss who raised him and gave him a job as his enforcer and hit man. One night Mike and Conner(played by Daniel Craig), John's son, are sent to quiet a member of the syndicate who is complaining about the death of his brother. Conner kills the man seemingly unnecessarily. Unfortunately, Mike Jr has hidden in the car and sees what happens. This along with Conner's treachery cause more tragedy and a search for vengeance. This film won an Oscar for cinematography but I think it may have deserved even more. I found it very moving and a wonderful movie for both men and women.
