This make of the 1940 original Rebecca (which starred Lawrence Olivier and Joan Fontaine) is quite good and a bit brighter (especially at the end). The original film is very hard to find to view so this is a nice repeat. If you have not already noticed Armie Hammer (yes great grandson of Armand Hammer the wealthy Chair of Occidental Petroleum) is gorgeous and at 36 has matured well into his looks. Lily James (Downton Abbey) is quite good as the unnamed focus of Max's attention in Monte Carlo where he is theoretically recovering from his wife's(Rebecca) death. The novel by Daphne du Maurier was a best seller and the device of never giving the new Mrs. de Winter a name emphacizes even more that it is all seemingly about Rebecca. Kristin Scott Thomas is just evil enough as Mrs. Danvers the House Manager to scare you a bit as she tries to push the new Mrs. de Winter off balance. Most of the film matches the original but a few changes near the end are a nice change for us romantics. I enjoyed it. Check it out on Netflix!

The scenery was beautiful.. Armie Hammer and Lily James and Kristin Scott are all perfectly cast. I had forgotten the original movie so it was quite entertaining.. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
