Iris, a beautiful heiress, dies of poisoning in the Argentine just as an overthrow of the government occurs. Poirot is in the restaurant, Les Cygnes Blancs, but is expelled from the country by the new government before he can solve the"apparent suicide". Two years later, a new restaurant opens in London with the same name and all the parties present at Iris's suicide are to be there. Poirot is determined to solve the crime.
