A young friend of Poirot's lives in the country and writes. He is engaged to a glamorous model who had previously been engaged to a local artist. A wasp's nest has invaded his yard and he is determined to rid himself of the pests. However, Poirot sees that there is a sinister quality about the whole scene and seeks to prevent a murder
