First, Don't take a date unless he has a softer side. Blythe Danner plays a widow who wonders if there is more to life than her routine of walking, golfing, and playing bridge with the girls who live at the local retirement complex. Rhea Pearlman, Mary Kay Place, and Jane Squibb are entertaining as her friends. While shopping for vitamins, a good looking guy named Bill (Sam Elliott) tells her she does not need them and is fine just the way she is. Later, she bumps into him at a parking lot and he asks her to lunch. This movie did not unfold quite the way I had anticipated. I like to be surprised sometimes, and wished I would have brought along my hanky. Blythe Danner does a fine job of carrying this movie in her first, I think, starring role. The movie is short and sweet and I recommend it especially for our more mature members.
