Doctor and Astronaut, Ryan Stone from Lake Zurich Illinois, is on the shuttle working on a medical experiement at the space station with Matt Kowalski, veteran astronaut and pilot, when space debris from an improperly exploded Soviet satellite disables their vehicle. Wow, who could have guessed that this movie is a winner. Only two characters on screen, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, no scenery except a distant earth, no fashion, no romance, but lots and lots of suspense. After the space debris hits them, only Ryan Stone and Matt Kowalski survive with little chance for escape. Stone's oxygen is running low and they have drifted from the space station. Kowalski keeps Stone calm and plots a possible escape. Riveting.

Agree with CC (Chief Chick:) this is a far too realistic, nausea-inducing due to superb special effects, film! Bullock was excellent as a lay astronaut ( be careful what you wish for?), and George was his classic solid but self-effacing hero. Try to see it in 3-D if you want to really feel the illusion of being in space.
