August Wilson's play directed by and starring Denzel Washington. Nominated for 4 Academy Awards. Viola Davis and Denzel have already won awards for their acting in Fences. Troy born into a tough existence was a gifted baseball player before the Negro era in the major leagues. Now a refuse worker in Pittsburgh, he struggles to "do what is right" along with his wife Rose, played by Viola Davis. I must say that being a man seems way too difficult. Why not just get on with life. This is NOT an uplifting movie unless you count Rose who is still standing at the end and finds purpose when many would have given up. Excellent acting but not really to my taste. Hidden Figures a much better movie.

I thought it was a good movie, not a great one. I had never seen the play so I was very anxious to see the movie. But I thought it was a little draggy, with very little action, typical of a play made into a movie. I thought the acting was good, but again it just seemed a little too theater-ish.
