The trailer makes this seem more of a comedy, but actually it is quite poignant. Frank's children, played by Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore, and Sam Rockwell, lie to him about why they are not coming to visit and also with the difficulties in their lives. No one tells Frank that the son his is most worried about, David, is in real trouble. Frank spent his life working in a factory which produced telephone wires so his children could have educations and good futures. After Frank's wife died, presumably of cancer, he begins to realize that only she talked to the kids and that she often "spared" him the truth. David is an artist, Sam Rockwell plays a percussionist in an orchestra, Kate Beckinsale is a very successful ad agency head, and Drew Barrymore is a dancer in Las Vegas with a secret. While sad at times, a good reminder for those who have not seen their parents for a while
