Equity is publicized as a movie about Women on Wall Street. Well, technically that is true as the majority of the main characters are played by women. However, the story would work with men in the lead roles. That said, Anna Gunn as top investment banker, Naomi Bishop, is excellent. She plays the Wall Street "game" just like the big boys. We do sense, however, that she is not as appreciated as she should be. The dynamics of interacting with clients still requires extreme tact and more when the client is a man and the banker is a woman. If as aggressive as a man, then she might be judged differently than a man behaving similarly. One conclusion...If women play like the men on Wall Street, one can be "screwed" by either sex in this world of money and power. Naomi specializes in bringing Silicon Valley stocks public (IPO means Initial Public Offering) which is what Naomi is doing for a firm called Caché. It is in the computer/internet privacy business. Naomi's # 2 in command is Erin Manning who badly wants a promotion and has a personal complication. Also, rearing his head is Michael Connor, Naomi's lover, and a broker at the same firm. At an alumni event Naomi runs into an old friend Samantha who is now a Federal Prosecutor for Financial Firms. You do not have to fully understand the process of how a company goes public because the movie pretty well spells it out including the necessary Road Show. You will have to take your brain to this movie, but it won't explode! See it!
