Fascinating story circa 1890-1905 of the early life of Colette, the famous French writer who first writes under her husband's name - Willy. Keira Knightly is luminous as Gabrielle/Colette. While her husband is a tyrant in many ways, he loves her to distraction despite his own wandering. Colette soon begins her own experimenting even as her husband takes credit for her series of stories about...Claudine. The books become sensations, and soon there are plays and products produced by the enterprise. I find great interest in the daring and direction of Colette as she begins to break free and find her own independence.
