Chief Chick Comments
I was not expecting this movie to be as good as it was. For those-of a certain age- we can remember the events of the past 60 years, but we probably do not understand what it was like for those faced with prejudice.
Lee Daniel's The Butler is like a butler: stately and unprepossessing. We see generations of presidents from the butler's white-gloved perspective. We also see his behind-the-scenes family. The subplot of his activist son is excellent. It took me too long to forget Oprah and hone in on Glory, but by the final scene I was thinking that Oprah was right to accept this role: she was convincing. Forest Whitaker was magnificent in a stately and unprepossessing way. I would love to discuss The Butler in tandem with Lincoln.
