Chief Chick Comments
About 10 minutes too long. However, if you have seen the two previous movies starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, you will enjoy finding out about them 9 years down the road. They are vacationing in Greece having just said goodby to Henry, Jesse's son from his first marriage. Jesse is feeling that he is letting his son down by not being there for him. Celeste is a big wackier than usual, I think, and like the others this movie is mostly talk. With their friends in Greece they discuss the inevitability of marriage breakups or their connection until death. I think we are set up for another movie by Richard Linklater, Delpy and Hawke. We'll see.

The movie brilliantly shows Celine and Jesse as the same people they were in the previous two movies, just older and dealing with the challenges of 41-year-olds. Each movie in the series is true to its time. Both Celine and Jesse are still charming. Both are still annoying. Both are human. Because stakes become higher as we age, the tone is a bit more shrill and tense than in the earlier movies. Let's face it--romance is easier than everyday family life. My husband and I have devised several versions of the fourth movie, which would take place when they're 60. More comments in 2020!
