Chief Chick Comments

Louis Malle (husband of Candace Bergen) the famous French filmmaker wrote this story of his experience during World War II when his Catholic school harbors Jewish boys. Malle is named Julien in the film and as the brightest boy in school becomes friends with the equally bright Jean Bonnet who is actually Jewish. Julien figures this out as the boys become closer. Understandably Malle suffered with this memory and depicted it in this excellent but sad film.
