This movie is way too slow. You can, however, appreciate the performances of Glenn Close and Janet McTeer both of whom were nominated for Academy Awards. The complexity a century ago of a woman trying to survive without assistance is depressing. That someone could impersonate a man, shocking although the layers of clothing, no doubt, helped. Even the topic of homosexuality, or is it?, is unusual in a film depecting these years. Interesting and tragic.
