Anna Karenina  It is 1874 and Anna Karenina, the wife of a Russian noble, is pursued and falls for a young Count. This sumptuous movie is based on Tolstoy's novel of the same name. The texture of this movie for women grabs you immediately. It is oddly filmed largely in an abandoned ornate theater with scenery being shown moving back and forth. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel  English retirees on tight budgets are lured to India to a unique retirement hotel. Charming movie...I was sorry when it was over. English retirees go to India to try to live more reasonably and, in theory, more luxuriously than they could at home. This serious, interesting movie for women, stars incredible actors, Christopher Walken, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Mark Ivaner, Imogen Pools. Interestingly, it came out about the same time as Quartet, starring Maggie Smith and others. Both movies are fantastic, so if you confuse the titles you will still have a great movie on your hands! |

Ewan McGregor breaks your heart as he looks for his family, Maria, Lucas, Thomas, and Simon. The youngest boys were only 5 and 7. The actual family was Spanish, but the story never the less keeps you on the edge of your seat. You cannot help but feel angst for the families separated-some forever. Bring your hanky.
