Amour Anne and Georges are retired music teachers living in Paris when Anne suffers a stroke and they are severely tested. This moving story also earned our highest rating for romance, five hearts, making it a wonderful movie for women. It is hard to imagine the love of a spouse who cares for a failing partner. Anna Karenina It is 1874 and Anna Karenina, the wife of a Russian noble, is pursued and falls for a young Count. This sumptuous movie is based on Tolstoy's novel of the same name. The texture of this movie for women grabs you immediately. It is oddly filmed largely in an abandoned ornate theater with scenery being shown moving back and forth. The costumes are fabulous, but most wonderful is the jewelry. It is simply the best jewels I have ever seen anywhere. Keira Knightley shows off the costumes and jewels to best advantage. The tragedy proceeds, but more... |

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel English retirees on tight budgets are lured to India to a unique retirement hotel. Charming movie...I was sorry when it was over. English retirees go to India to try to live more reasonably and, in theory, more luxuriously than they could at home. As usual Judi Dench gives a lovely performance as does Bill Nighy, Penelope Wilton, Maggie Smith, and Dev Patel (star of Slumdog Millionaire). Of course, the hotel turns out to be run down, but more... |

Lincoln As the Civil War Ends, Lincoln is determined to pass the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Academy Award (as predicted) and the movie an Oscar for Production Design; a wonderful movie for women and men. Lincoln is my favorite President and for the first time in my life, I felt I was with him. Filmed in historic locations in Richmond Virginia, the cinematography is beautiful, the words inspiring, and the film moving. more... |

A Late Quartet A Parkinson's diagnosis throws a famous string quartet into turmoil on their 25th anniversary year. This serious, interesting movie for women, stars incredible actors, Christopher Walken, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Mark Ivaner, Imogen Pools. Interestingly, it came out about the same time as Quartet, starring Maggie Smith and others. Both movies are fantastic, so if you confuse the titles you will still have a great movie on your hands! |

The Impossible This true story of a family swept away in the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia is gripping. Naomi Watts plays the British mother who survives with the oldest son but is gravely injured. Ewan McGregor breaks your heart as he looks for his family, Maria, Lucas, Thomas, and Simon. The youngest boys were only 5 and 7. The actual family was Spanish, but the story never the less keeps you on the edge of your seat. You cannot help but feel angst for the families separated-some forever. Bring your hanky. Fabulous action sequences! |

Think Like A Man A group of friends find out their girlfriends are using Steve Harvey's book about how to handle your man on them and plot their own strategies. Cute and very funny in parts-especially Kevin Hart. Steve Harvey plays a key role in advising a group of girlfriends how to "Think Like A Man" which is the title of Harvey's book. Funny and enjoyable especially when the guys figure out what is going on. |
