Tina Fey in a largely dramatic role as Kim Barker who leaves her safe but boring office job in the news department of a major network and travels to Afghanistan in 2003 to be embedded with the troops in Kandahar. She finds Margot Robbie as the only other woman reporter there. Tanya (Robbie) tells her that if Kim was a 7 in New York, she is a 9 or 10 here in Afghanistan. Kim has left her boyfriend at home and one wonders if it can last. She meets a high ranking Afghan official played well by Alfred Molina as well as a Scot photographer, Iain, played by Martin Freeman. She struggles to get on the air when Iraq is the hot spot in the early years of that war. Lots of violence and bloodshed and nothing pleasant to look at for sure. The studio would like you to think this is a comedy, but it is not although there are a few light moments. Based on a book written by the real Kim Barker, it is interesting but not riveting. A good but not great movie.

I haven't seen it, but from the previews they are certainly marketing it as a comedy...yet I didn't think the subject of the war was very amusing. Thanks for the review, I still think I'll skip it
