Chief Chick Comments

Amy Schumer is, in many ways, a genius. She wrote and stars in this comedy which turns the tables on the stereotypical young single guy. She sleeps around and cares little for the pleasure of her partner. She drinks to oblivion. She ridicules her sister's suburban family lifestyle. She takes care of her difficult, pretty biased father who is in assisted living, and she works for a ridiculous magazine which caters to the basest interests of young single men. The first half hour of the movie does not signal what is coming in one sense. I pretty much disliked Amy as a person especially because the "potty" or "icky" humor, if you will is pre-eminent. There continues a smattering throughout the film. However, there are numerous truly hilarious moments when I laughed out loud as did everyone else. Schumer is really, really funny. Although Bill Hader can be really, really funny, he is more of the straight man(literally and figuratively) in this film. Yes, he is quirky but lovable and ta da! a Doctor who operates on famous professional athletes. Amy's favorite team, she says, is The Orlando…Bloom. As a woman, I loved the romantic side of this comedy very much. These two people belong together. Yet Amy seems to be trying to undermine the relationship often. Directed by Judd Apatow, this movie is very much R rated. In interviews Schumer has said that they came as close as they could go to X rated without going over the line. The result is some humor that is wonderful and a little that made me squirm. Schumer has great legs and shows them off at their best. The role played by LeBron James is wonderfully written and he does an excellent job as Dr Aaron Connor's best friend and shows off his "feminine" side which I found hilarious. I have a new found admiration for James for sure! There are cameos also in the film. Look for Matthew Broderick and Chris Evert. Although the film is a little longer than I usually enjoy, it never-the-less kept my interest .throughout. This is a great date film for she and he to enjoy or she and she or he and he. Anyway, New York looks fun and the film certainly is. Worth the buzz. Go see it!
