This interesting movie is much too long and the subject, JMW Turner somewhat unattractive, but the art he creates is incredible. Turner who lived until 1851 died at the age of 76 and was renowned in his own time. He left the bulk of his art to the British nation for display free to all who would come see it. He is famous for his portrayal of lights, seascapes and battles, and beautiful landscapes. His personal life was spotty and for much of the movie, we see him display affection only to his father, a retired barber. However, he meets a woman, Sophia Booth, is eventually is widowed and sets up house with her despite having another home in London. Grunting is often his response to questions but he can be polite when it is necessary. I enjoyed the scenery, the sets which seemed to me very, very authentic. While the story is somewhat dry, I gave it a higher rating because of the knowledge I gleaned and the inside look at his artistry.

could have been better. I liked the authenticity and paintings very much as much as the costumes and the scenery. Just the story, too long and to dry every now and then.
