This true story of a family swept away in the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia is gripping. Naomi Watts plays the British mother who survives with the oldest son but is gravely injured. Ewan McGregor breaks your heart as he looks for his family, Maria, Lucas, Thomas, and Simon. The youngest boys were only 5 and 7. The actual family was Spanish, but the story never-the-less keeps you on the edge of your seat. You cannot help but feel angst for the families separated-some forever. Bring your hanky. Fabulous action sequences! The movie took over 12 months to shoot.
This was a very emotional movie, and the problem solver in me kept thinking how to react in such unbelievably terrible situations. Truly amazing how these people survived, how anyone survived that disaster. And the disaster scenes were amazingly realistic. Wow. But I am incredibly grateful for the doctors and nurses who were overwhelmed with the injured thousands.
