Chief Chick Comments
Matthew McConaughy turns in a steller performance for which he lost over 40 pounds to effectively play real life Ron Woodroof. Jaret Leto plays a transvestite who helps Ron realize that AIDS is not just for gay guys. The language is foul and many scenes show the "underbelly of life". The toughest scenes to watch are at the beginning of the film. Honestly, you will like the movie as Ron Woodroof is portrayed as a more likable guy during the progression of the story. Really a must see.

I found this movie to be one of the best movies I've seen in 2013. McConaughy's performance was Oscar worthy. Jared Leto was also outstanding. Movies based on true stories always seem to be more compelling.

I found this movie to be one of the most compelling films of the year so far. Both Mathew McConaughy (playing Ron) & Jared Leto's (playing Rayon) physical transformation to play their parts was equally draw dropping. Both of these actors encompass their roles and both deserve Oscar nods. Jared Leto is not only a gorgeous guy in real life, but played a believable attractive transvestite. And Mathew, who's also great eye candy in real life, transformed himself physically to be unattractive. I found this move, loosely based on true events, to about a despicable and homophobic human being (McConaughy's character, Ron) who seeks out on a journey to save himself, and winds up befriending and helping those he initially despised. It's a tale of friendship, human growth and survival. It's a bit of a dark movie, but inspirational at the same time -- without being preachy.
