Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941
December 8, 2014
Yesterday, was the 73 anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Coincidentally, I was watching From Here to Eternity, an Academy Award Film from 1953, which ends on that fateful day. The movie was a big winner and no doubt popular among an American population which still remembered where they were that Sunday morning. In the film we see the lives and loves of three American Army enlisted men played by Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, and Montgomery Clift. The main loves are Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed. All were nominated for Oscars with Sinatra and Reed winning. The movie and director also won Oscars along with four other Academy Awards. For those of you who watched The Roosevelts upon which I wrote recently(just scroll down) you will understand better how much FDR needed something provocative in order to enter the war as England was struggling to survive. At any rate, yes a day to remember and a movie showing what Hawaii was like on a military base before WWII.
