Occasionally humorous but often melancholy stories of Sidney Chamber, a young clergyman who fought in World War II, and Geordie Keating a Cambridge based police detective. Sidney loves a young debutante but feels as a vicar he has not enough to offer her. Geordie, almost 20 years his senior, is married and a top policeman in Cambridge near Granchester where Sidney is vicar. Over the first two seasons various murders take place and are solved by the duo with Sidney often seeing another side to the crime besides the obvious. The two become fast friends. Yet Sidney often slips and starts drinking when he cannot find solace elsewhere. James Norton one of the best hunks on British Television stars. Seeing him as he works around the parish is a treat as he is in great shape. Good murder mysteries, sad stories, unresolved passion. See them.
