Well, I avoided seeing this 165 minute movie as long as I could. In fact, Boyhood is much better than I expected. Yes it is long. But the episodes of Mason's life are interesting as his mother schools herself, marries and divorces, and becomes a college teacher. Eller Coltrane who was cast as Mason when Coltrane was 6 years old becomes better and better. I must say I am glad these awkward years are far behind me; yet he reminds me of other young men I have seen mature. The concept of filming two weeks every year for over 10 years is unique and daunting. Richard Linklater has done an excellent job. While Boyhood would not be my pick for best picture(numerous Oscor nominations including Arquette, Linklater as Director, and the movie itself), it is never-the-less compelling. I felt wistful as it ended. Mason was in college and that sweet boy of 6 was long gone. When you are ready to sit for a while, see it!
